First Presumptive Case of Coronavirus in Delaware
The case involves a man in his 50’s out of New Castle County, who is associated with the University of Delaware.
Officials say, he is not severely ill and has self-isolated himself in his home. He was exposed to the virus after visiting another state.
The sample will be sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for confirmation, officials said.
“We’ve been expecting this for weeks,” Gov. John Carney said in a 4:30 p.m. press conference. “We’re not panicing and neither should you.”
The University of Delaware has cancelled classes Thursday and Friday (3/12 and 3/13) and moved its spring break to March 14th. Classes will resume March 23rd online until further notice.
Students, faculty, and staff who have concerns about potential exposure risks should contact the University of Delaware’s Call Center at (302) 831-1188 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Here is the statement from University President Dennis Assanis.
