It’s Margie 2.0!

Wilmington’s own Margie Mays is back on American Idol this season! She received a golden ticket to advance to Hollywood! Even though last season, Katy Perry was a huge fan of Margie, she voted no this time around. Katy did not feel like Margie Mays brought the same energy as she did last year.

“I’ve seen you choose better songs that really pull us in. Look, I mean, I like your personality. I’m not telling you not to be Margie Mays. Don’t change. Don’t be serious because that’s boring,” Perry said. “I didn’t feel like you gave us what we felt and saw the first time we met you.

However, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie wanted to give her another shot.

For this audition, Margie sang Adele’s “I found a boy” accompanied on piano by her boyfriend, Johnny West, who she dubbed as “the love of her life.” When Margie left the room, it was Johnny’s turn to sing. He ALSO received a golden ticket so they are off to Hollywood together! (how cute)  Katy Perry predicts that Johnny will even go farther than Margie!

Margie grew up in Wilmington and went to Tower Hill High School. We’re rooting for your Margie!

The next episode airs Sunday on ABC at 6pm.
