NikkieTutorials: YouTube Personality Comes Out As Transgender
Popular YouTube beauty blogger NikkieTutorials (real name: Nikkie de Jager) announced she is a transgender woman in a coming-out video posted earlier today (January 13).
She said in the video that she had always planned to tell her fans one day, however, her hand was forced when someone threatened to out her to the media without her consent. “I am taking back my own power,” de Jager said to her 12 million followers.
“I can’t believe I am saying this today to all of you, for the entire world to see, but damn it feels good to finally do it. It’s time to let go and be truly free,” de Jager said. “When I was younger I was born in the wrong body, which means that I am transgender.”
She thanked her mother: “Growing up, I think the number one thing I’m the most thankful for is my mom because she has been there for me since day one.”
“This feels liberating and freeing, but I, at the end of the day, am still Nikkie.”
