Elton John Sings, Plays Piano on Title Track of New Ozzy Osbourne Album
That song Ozzy Osbourne was working on with Elton John that Sharon Osbourne mentioned earlier this week on CBS’ The Talk? That song is actually the title track on Ozzy’s upcoming studio album Ordinary Man, and Sir Elton not only plays piano on the track, but he sings on it, too.
These details surfaced thanks to a new interview from Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, who plays drums on Ordinary Man. Smith said that producer Andrew Watt came up with a piano track for “Ordinary Man,” and when it came time to record it, then thought of John.
“They know everybody, all the English rock royalty,” said Smith. “Andrew and I went down to Atlanta, where Elton John lives when he’s on the East Coast. I think he’s kinda all over the place [with where he lives], and we recorded him, and he plays piano on the song, and he plays it beautifully, of course. And then we’re like, ‘Why don’t we have him, like, sing a verse?'”
Smith calls the vocal duet “f—ing awesome” and adds, “They’re singing, these two iconic, legendary English f—ing rockers that have been through it all, about the end of their lives: ‘I don’t want to die an ordinary man.'”
As if Sir Elton appearing on the song wasn’t enough, Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash also appears on “Ordinary Man” and plays two different solos. This marks the second known song cameo from Slash, with the first being his guitar work on “Straight to Hell.”
Earlier today (January 9), it was announced that Ordinary Man will become available for pre-save and pre-order on digital platforms.
