Halloween is notorious for parties. Local police is encouraging people to drive safely and be responsible. With Halloween this upcoming Thursday, they have stated there will be checkpoints throughout Delaware over the weekend.
DUI checkpoints will be on US 40 near Newark, as well as US 13 in Dover and Seaford. These checkpoints will be in full swing from 10pm Saturday, to 2am Sunday.
In 2019 alone, there have been 16 confirmed DUI fatalities in Delaware, along with 106 total traffic fatalities according to Delaware Office of Highway Safety.
Below are a list of tips provided by The Office of Highway Safety for staying safe this weekend, or any night for that matter.
- Assign a responsible sober driver, or plan to use public transportation or a ride service, even if you've only had one alcoholic beverage.
- Contact local police if you see a drunk driver on the road. This can save someone's lives.
- Take the keys away from friends who might drink and drive and make arrangements for them to get home safe.
