Tyler Perry made headlines this week with his event showing off his new 330-acre film studios in Atlanta. The filmmaker hosted a star-studded grand-opening that brought out the likes of Beyoncé, Cicely Tyson, Bill Clinton, Spike Lee, and Oprah.
Well before the event, parts of the studio were functional: some segments of Black Panther were shot there. Indeed, Black Panther was the first production to be filmed at the new Tyler Perry Studios, as Shadow and Act reports.
Over the last few years, the studio had been operating with the Marvel project and other series including The Walking Dead.
The production of Black Panther began in August of 2016 and ended in November of 2017, and employed over 3,000 residents of Georgia, as AJC reports.
Earlier this week, Perry was criticized on social media for building the massive studio. Some people said that the filmmaker could’ve used the acres to house the homeless and others were concerned about whether or not the studio would employ Atlanta residents.
