Nick Jonas recently got candid about his experience with Type 1 Diabetes. The singer says that he was 13 when symptoms like weight loss, and sugary soda cravings began, People explains. When tested, Jonas says his blood sugar level was nine times over the standard limit, at 917.

He states, “I was very close to a coma. Like a day away, if I hadn’t gone to the hospital.” He then adds, “I kept asking my parents, ‘Am I going to be okay?’ I was just so concerned that it was going to limit my ability to do all the things I wanted to do. I was very scared – it’s a big life change.”

Nick explains that he’s now managed his diabetes for 14 years, and he hopes sharing his experience can help other people. Jonas adds, “You must go see your doctor and get your check-ups and make sure you’re in the healthiest space you can be in because it’s going to make every aspect of your life better.”
