“Pose like a trophy when Naomi’s walk in. She need an Oscar for that pretty dark skin. Pretty like Lupita when the cameras close in,” Beyonce sang on her 2019 single “Brown Skin Girl,” from her compilation album, The Lion King: The Gift, referencing actress Lupita Nyong’o.

Like Bey’s reference, Nyong’o is stunning on the October 2019 issue of Vanity Fair that the actress is gracing the cover of in a lime green ruffled dress.

In the issue, Nyong’o discusses the film and fashion moments that changed the Black Panther star’s life.

The Kenyan-Mexican star who garnered her breakout role in 2013’s 12 Years a Slave wears a myriad of different looks in the spread. From puffy winter coats to blazers, Nyong’o sports bright and bold colors and patterns in the photographs for the issue that were taken by photographer Jackie Nickerson.
