Philadelphia Shooting: Multiple Officers Injured in Shootout
9:55pm UPDATE: Two police officers have finally been freed from the home they were being held in for hours after a suspect opened gunfire in Philadelphia’s Nicetown neighborhood. Police are still negotiating with the suspect to surrender.
At least six Philadelphia police officers have been shot in a standoff at a suspected drug house.
As of 7:20 p.m. ET, a gunman remained holed up inside a home in the city’s Tioga-Nicetown section, surrounded by ATF agents, armed officers, SWAT team members and armored vehicles. Temple University, which has been on lockdown since the incident began to unfold, has issued the following warning: “Seek shelter. Secure doors. Be silent. Be still. Police are responding.” The standoff began after police attempted to serve a drug warrant at the home at 4:30 p.m. ET, according to reports. One witness says she heard “at least 100 shots fired,” while video taken at the scene shows bullets ricocheting off the pavement near officers.
A shootout in Philadelphia’s Nicetown-Tioga section has resulted in at least six Philadelphia Police Department officers being injured and rushed to the hospital.
ABC News, NBC News and WPIV-TV report the shootout began around 4:30 PM ET and is currently still active with at least one shooter. Officers were serving a drug warrant to a home at the time. Currently, the shooter has baracaded themselves in their home.
