Lady Gaga Donates Classroom Supplies To El Paso, Dayton & Gilroy
Lady Gaga is offering a helping hand to communities affected by gun violence. The singer is donating classroom supplies to El Paso, TX; Dayton, OH; and Gilroy, CA as part of her Born This Way foundation in partnership with DonorsChoose.org.
Following the mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton over the Aug. 3 weekend, Gaga took to Facebook to write a note to the victims and the survivors.”My heart goes out to those who were taken from us too soon and to their families, loved ones and communities who are left to grieve,” she wrote. “Everyone has the right to laws that make them feel safe in their communities. In this moment, I want to channel my confusion, frustration, and fury into hope.”
That hope starts with her announcing she will “fully fund” classroom projects in those two cities, along with Gilroy, which was struck by gun violence at the community’s annual Garlic Festival last month. That funding will go towards providing educational tools for 14 classrooms in Dayton, 125 classrooms in El Paso, and 23 classrooms in Gilroy that will “inspire their students to work together and bring their dreams to life.”
Gaga wrote that surviving and recovering from these attacks means “prioritizing your mental health and checking in on your loved ones.” She also urges everyone to continue to support those who were hurt by this violence. “We cannot turn away from ourselves,” she wrote on Facebook. “We cannot turn away from our loved ones. We need each other. Don’t turn away.”
