Katy Perry’s ‘Small Talk’ Lyric Video Pokes Fun At Those Awkward Post-Breakup Convos
Breakin’ up is hard to do, but it’s those awkward conversations post-breakup that are truly the worse. Katy Perry’s “Small Talk” lyric video is all about what happens you go from strangers to lovers to strangers. She’s right, it’s super weird.
Weirdest of all may be really taking a minute to think about what used to be. “Isn’t it weird that you’ve seen me naked?” she sings on the single she co-wrote with Johan Carlsson, Charlie Puth and Jacob Kasher Hindlin. “We had conversations ’bout forever/ Now it’s ’bout the weather‚ okay.”
The video pokes fun at those uncomfortable interactions between the two former lovers who used to share a bed and now share a cubicle. As Perry points out, it’s not easy “acting like we never met/Faking like we’d just forget we were lovers,” Yeah, good luck with that.
This is Perry’s second new song this year. She previously released the single “Never Really Over” back in May, which will be on her upcoming album. Her first since 2017’s Witness.
