The Unexpected Connection Between Marvel’s ‘Black Widow’ & ‘Stranger Things 3’
Finally, Marvel is making a Black Widow movie. It’ll be part of Phase 4 of the MCU, which includes a female Thor and Mahershala Ali as Blade. But, it turns out, Black Widow has an unexpected connection to Stranger Things 3. And no, it’s not Hopper’s Hawaiian shirts.
At Comic-Con over the weekend, it was revealed that Stranger Things’ David Harbour will star in Black Widow alongside Scarlett Johansson. And his character’s name, coincidentally enough, has a funny tie to the Netflix series. Harbour plays a Russian superhero named Red Guardian in the Marvel movie. His character’s real name? Alexei.
Spoilers ahead for those who haven’t finished Stranger Things 3.
Yes, that would be the same name as the internet’s favorite new Stranger Things character. Alexei was the cherry Slurpee-loving Russian scientist who wasn’t long for this world. Seriously, R.I.P. Alexei. Some may know him better as Smirnoff, which was Chief Hopper’s nickname for the Russian.
Unfortunately, fans won’t know if Harbour’s Alexei also loves slushies until 2020. That’s when Black Widow hits theaters.
