Brazilian Women Reportedly Spend Thousands of Dollars on C-Section Parties
What if giving birth was more like having a party instead of an event that causes anxiety followed by an immense amount of pain? Well, that’s how the Brazilians do it. Women in Brazil pay upwards of $10,000 for flowers, catering, guest books and gifts for C-section parties.
C-section parties are considered a cultural event and the surgeries account for 55 percent of all births in Brazil compared to 32 percent in the United States.
C-sections are linked to respiratory distress and high blood pressure in babies with mothers being twice as likely to die.
The government has since banned c-sections prior to 36 weeks with health professionals urging mothers to think of the baby’s health as well as their own first.
