The Who’s landmark album Tommy was released 50 years ago today (May 23), and while the album wasn’t technically the first “rock opera,” it certainly helped popularize the term and the concept.
The band also toured extensively in promotion of the album, and thanks to Music Vault, one of those shows is available for everyone to enjoy. Check out The Who’s performance from their July 7, 1970 show in Lenox, Mass.
