Music News

Here’s a fun fact: Myspace still very much exists. A not-so-fun-fact? They’ve just admitted to losing a ton of user files.

The former social media giant released the following statement that reads, “As a result of a server migration project, any photos, videos, and audio files you uploaded more than three years ago may no longer be available on or from Myspace. We apologize for the inconvenience and suggest that you retain your back up copies.”

This statement comes after reports surfaced last year that music links on Myspace were not working.

So, what does that mean exactly?  It means over 50 million songs from 14 million artists uploaded to Myspace from its launch in 2003 to 2015 are now gone, according to tech expert Andy Baio.

However, it also means all those horrendous pre-Instagram filtered selfies and other embarrassing photos that were on your Myspace page are now all gone, too.  Hmmm…bummer about ALL of the music files being gone, but this necessarily isn’t a bad thing.

Hopefully, other internet companies will make note of this blunder, and the rest of us can use it a reminder to always backup your backups when it comes to saving something really important.
