Apple Releases Update to Prevent FaceTime Eavesdropping
Last week a 14-year-old Tucson, Arizona boy found a flaw with Apple’s Facetime feature that allowed the iPhone to turn into a microphone while using Group Facetime. Callers could hear what a person was saying even before they connected to the Facetime. Apple has released an update for the flaw in their latest iOS 12 system and Grant Thompson received a donation to his college fund as well as a bounty from Apple for alerting them about the issue.
Users were upset by Apple’s delayed response to the FaceTime eavesdropping, the company promises to make improvements, however, the flaw comes as Apple CEO Tim Cook has been saying that privacy is a “fundamental right” and he has publicly criticized Google and Facebook for their practices of sharing users information.
