Rocketman, the Elton John film that has long been in the works, has received a release date, but it’s going to be a long, long time until it touches down in theaters.

Per Paramount Pictures (via NME), Rocketman is slated for release on May 17, 2019.

A lot is still unknown about the film, but one thing that we do know is that it isn’t a biopic, per se.  Actor Taron Egerton, who’s portraying Sir Elton after actor Tom Hardy bowed out of the project, said, “We are making a movie called ‘Rocketman’ about Elton John’s formative years. Everyone thinks it’s a biopic. It isn’t. It’s a fantasy musical so it’s actually his songs used to express important beats in his life at emotional moments. He’s not the only character that sings. It’s going to be fun.”

Definitely sounds like fun!  If only we didn’t have to wait a whole year to see it!
