Today (February 12) would have been Ray Manzarek’s 79th birthday, and while the legendary keyboardist and founding member of The Doors may be gone, he’s certainly not forgotten and neither are those crazy tales of The Doors coming up through the 60s L.A. rock scene.
Check out this clip of Manzarek recalling the moment that led to The Doors being fired from being the house band at The Whisky A Go Go. The way he tells the story makes you feel like you’re there.

Erica Banas is a news blogger who's been covering the rock/classic rock world since 2014. The coolest event she's ever covered in person was the 2021 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. (Sir Paul McCartney inducting Foo Fighters? C'mon now!) She's also well-versed in etiquette and extraordinarily nice. #TransRightsAreHumanRights
