So, according to NME, the 1997 single from Natalie is actually a cover. Or rather, a cover of a cover.
Alternative Rock band Ednaswap wrote “Torn” in 1993:
… And then a Danish singer named Lis Sørensen released it in her native language, which is clearly the tone that Imbruglia took with it:
