Claymont Fire Company Santa Schedule and Food Closet

The Claymont Fire Company will be collecting non-perishable food for the Claymont Food Closet during their Santa Claus visits to the neighborhoods in their Fire District, December 3rd through 17th, as well as at The ACME in the F&N Shopping Center on December 15th from 10:00 - 2:00 pm. YOGA CLASSES

The Newark Delaware Parks and Recreation center offers multiple different types of yoga for all to enjoy including Morning Yoga to restore and rejuvenate mind and body alike. Also offered is Multi Level Yoga striving to strengthen the body and improve flexibility, whereas Gentle Yoga safely promotes joint and back health. Evening Yoga is also offered to instruct the combination of exercise, breathing and mediation. Adult Fitness Programs

The Newark Delaware Parks and Recreation center is currently offering multiple fitness classes for adults including Zumba; a rhythmical based dance program, Total Body Power Hour focusing on keeping each individual muscle engaged utilizing weights and resistance. Also showcased is Stay Fit class providing strength training with low impact. Zumba Gold brings the same excitement from the original Zumba class but creates specific modifications for an older audience. Preschool Sports

PRESCHOOL SPORTS PINT SIZE BASKETBALL Fun, teamwork, sportsmanship, and learning the fundamentals of dribbling, passing and shooting using mini balls are the goals of this program. Boys and Girls ages 4-7 are welcome! This program is held at McVey Elementary School beginning January 7-Feb 25, 2014 on Tuesday evenings. Class for ages 4-5 is held from 6-6:45pm and the class for ages 6-7 is held from 7-7:45pm. Fee is $61 and the Newark resident discounted fee is $45. SOCCEROOS Newark Parks and Recreation Department offers a great introduction to soccer for kids ages 3-6 with Socceroos. This program focuses on basic skill development such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and eye/hand coordination. Basic rules are covered, and the emphasis of the program is on fun! We suggest all children wear shin guards. Classes are every Thursday evening from Jan 23-Feb 27, 2014 at McVey Elementary School. The 3 & 4 year olds class is from 6-6:45pm. The 5 & 6 year olds class is from 7-7:45pm. Registration fees are $47 for Newark residents and $31 for non-residents. Youth Sports

YOUTH BASKETBALL – Ages 8 & 9 Newark Parks and Recreation Department’s recreational youth basketball program emphasizes participation, fun, sportsmanship, and skill development. Practice sessions begin in November with league play from early December to mid-March. Each team practices or plays twice weekly. All participants must meet age guidelines as of March 1, 2014 (proof of age required with registration The Jump Shot league for ages 8 & 9 plays at West Park Elementary School. Fee is $90 and the Newark resident discount fee is $73. YOUTH SCHOOL AGE PROGRAMS

Before and After School Programs The City of Newark Department of Parks and Recreation offers a Before School and After School program at John R. Downes Elementary School and West Park Elementary School. The program is for children grades K-5 enrolled at Downes or West Park Schools only and meets when school is in session. The Before School center meets Monday-Friday from 7-8:15am in the cafeteria at both locations. The fee per month is $146 and the Newark resident discount fee is $136 per month.
