Holiday Concert at Grand Opera House
Free Holiday Concert at the Grand Opera House
Public invited to see Del. National Guard band, see Santa Claus
On Wednesday, December 14th at 7 p.m., the Delaware National Guard’s 287th Army Band, a 40-person concert band, will give a free holiday concert at The Grand Opera House in Wilmington. This concert is open to the public and no tickets are required.
This year’s event will also include a reading of The Night Before Christmas by Maj. Gen. Frank Vavala and a visit (with gifts!) by Old Saint Nick himself.
Currently, the Delaware National Guard has hundreds of troops deployed to Afghanistan. This includes the 126th Medical Company (Air Ambulance) and the 1049th Transportation Company serving in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
The Delaware National Guard strives to give back to the community. Donations of food items to support the Delaware National Guard’s War on Hunger are encouraged.
This is the 13th year in a row the 287th Army Band has performed free holiday concerts, and the 11th in Wilmington at The Grand. The Grand Opera House has graciously waived rental fees for the concert and the City of Wilmington is offering free parking once again.
Parking at the Doubletree Hotel (700 King Street) is free if you bring your parking ticket to the show for validation.
The Grand Opera House is located at 818 North Market Street in Wilmington and doors for the event open at 6:30.
The Delaware National Guard consists of nearly 2,500 soldiers, airmen and women - serving and protecting Delaware as your Hometown Force.
