WRC’s Downtown Fall Fest returns to Market Street

The free, family-friendly event has new elements for everyone Wilmington Renaissance Corporation (WRC) will bring the 2011 Downtown Fall Fest, presented by AstraZeneca, to Market Street in downtown Wilmington on Saturday, Nov. 5 from noon to 4 p.m. The free, family-friendly event will feature five blocks of fun including Super Hoops, bungee challenge, giant slide, moon bounces, hayrides, obstacle courses and much more. In addition, the festival will have live music and performances from local entertainers. “One other exciting part of the Downtown Fall Fest is that children ages 3 to 12 representing a school or organization can participate in the AZ Challenge for a chance to win a $500 cash prize for that school or organization,” Carrie W. Gray, WRC Managing Director, said. “The challenge is really a way to have children explore the many healthy activities throughout the event and see that staying fit can be fun.” In addition to the many activities and AZ Challenge, the 2011 Downtown Fall Fest will also include a cycling Time Trial around Rodney Square. City of Wilmington youth and young people involved with the Cadence Cycling Foundation will ride the course with a cycling mentor from AstraZeneca and be timed. “The Time Trial is another example of young people trying something new, challenging themselves and participating in an event that is part of an active lifestyle,” Gray said. “We are excited to have the AstraZeneca mentors and Cadence Cycling Foundation partners as part of the event.” Event partners, The Grand Opera House and Delaware Historical Society (DHS), will also have activities near their facilities. The Grand will host musical groups on stage while the DHS will have old-fashioned games in Willingtown Square on the 500 block of Market Street. The event is also sponsored in part by the City of Wilmington, DuPont, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Delmarva Power, and Downtown Visions. For more information on this free family friendly event, visit
