When the Golden Bowl Is Broken

Caring for Loved Ones Who Can No Longer Care for Themselves Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel sang a song in the ’60s called “Old Friends.” The old friends “sat on their park bench like bookends. … How terribly strange to be seventy.” Maybe seventy-, eighty-, and ninety-somethings in 1968 New York City had time to sit on park benches like bookends. Today, they consult with corporations, volunteer all over the world, teach, care for grandchildren, skydive, direct choirs, hike the Grand Canyon, hold down jobs, vote, and they wear really cool Nikes. Then, one day, they really do stop. Their strength fails. Their memory fails. They can’t keep up with the ordinary. They need you to help. You don’t know where to start. This seminar lets you know that you are not alone. It gives you practical hope and help, when you are caring for loved ones who can no longer care for themselves (and may not know it). The seminar takes place on Saturday, November 12, 9:15 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Please visit www.bvbcnet.org to download a registration form. -Pastor Bo Matthews
